5 24 Extreme situations Extreme word wheel Word wheels are easy to build and help you to keep track of all the words you should know. You just need some cardboard and a paper clip. a) Make a word wheel by following the instructions below. 1  definition 1 vocabulary 1 large disk (25 cm) small disk (18 cm) a paper clip • First, draw a disk of 25 centimetres on one piece of cardboard and cut it out. Divide it into eight sections as shown. • After that, draw a second disk of 18 centimetres on a separate piece of cardboard and cut it out. • Cut out the window on the small disk on the dotted lines and fold it on the solid line. • Draw an arrow on the other side as shown above. • Put the small disk on top of the large disk and attach them with a paper clip in the middle. b) Now pick eight words you want to study from below. agony anger cemetery desperation graduation fear ice climbing incubator intensity mourning respect operating theatre surprise • Write a definition of the first word into one of the eight sections on the outer rim of the large disk. • After that, fold back the window and write down the word itself. • Repeat these steps until all eight words have definitions. c) Now study the words using your word wheel. • Turn the wheel so that the arrow points to a definition. The correct word will appear in the window. • To test yourself, close the window on the word wheel. • To check, fold back the window. d) Fill in suitable words from above into the sentences below. 1.
