Then complete the e-mail below in which the police officer reports on the accident. Use present participle constructions. Police Officer: I understand you were involved in a traffic accident. Jeff Thornton: Yes, it has just happened. I’m still quite shaken. PO: Are you OK to answer some questions for me? Jeff: Sure. I don’t know how much help I’ll be though. PO: What can you remember from the accident? Jeff: I was driving along Victoria Grove when suddenly a dog ran across the street. PO: Did you run it over? Jeff: No, because I saw the dog early enough, I braked hard and the dog ran away. But it seems that the driver in the car behind me couldn’t stop. He was too close and so he crashed into the rear of my car. PO: I see. But the side of your car seems to be damaged too. What happened there? Jeff: As the guy behind me crashed into my rear, he pushed my car forward. I realised my brakes were not working anymore and so I couldn’t do anything. PO: How far did he push you? Jeff: He pushed me right across to Earl Street. It was a dangerous situation since there is usually heavy traffic on Earl Street in the mornings. A car coming from the left couldn’t stop in time and crashed into the side of my vehicle. PO: Are you hurt? Jeff: Yes, I think so. I feel a bit dizzy. But fortunately I had front and side airbags which protected me from serious injuries. PO: Thank you very much for your cooperation, Mr Thornton. We’ll come back to you soon.
