Speaking: An interview with a participant Get together with a partner and assign roles: One of you is a participant at the Earth Summit, the other one is a reporter. Compile as much information about her and her activities as you can. b) Write a text for a school magazine and include the following points: • an appropriate title (which should not just be her name) • biographical information • her most important projects • the reason why she became famous • what can be learned from her activities Presentation: Today’s most pressing problems a) Together with a partner, research today’s most pressing environmental problems, their causes and possible attempts to solve them. Collect information about the following points: • the most important environmental problems • the causes of these developments • the steps that need to be taken to solve them • the reasons why these problems still exist b) Discuss these issues with your partner and agree on the three most important aspects. c) Prepare a presentation on your results and include the following elements: • a definition or very clear explanation of these issues • a description of their most worrying aspects • pictures that show the effect on the environment • graphics and/or diagrams which support the urgency of the situation • an outlook onto the future • suggestions what each of you could do to deal with environmental problems Poster: Today’s environmental activists a) Do your own research and find out more about other activists and NGOs who try to make the public aware of the dramatic situation brought about by climate change and deal with the following points: • the names of these organisations • the views of the activists • their projects • their strategies • the response of the public b) Create a poster about one of these activists/organisations to present your findings.
