1 Things are changing fast. The way we work and the kinds of jobs available are shifting because of new technology and smart computers, or what we often call artificial intelligence (AI). Jobs we see today might look different soon, and some entirely new jobs might pop up. Let’s imagine a doctor. Right now, doctors use their knowledge and experience to help patients. But soon, smart computers could quickly suggest what might be wrong with a patient. So, doctors might focus more on talking to patients and taking care of them, using the computer’s suggestions as a guide. Think about architects too. Instead of drawing buildings themselves, they might use smart computer programmes to help come up with designs. Then, the architect’s job is to make those designs better and more suited for people. Now, what about brand-new jobs? Well, there might be people called digital ethicists. Their job? Making sure these smart computers do things in a right and fair way. Then there are AI trainers. They’ll help teach the computer how to do specific tasks. And as more people use virtual reality (like computer-created worlds), we might need virtual reality designers to make those worlds fun and interesting. So, what should you do to get ready for these changes? First, always be ready to learn new things. The world keeps changing, but if you’re curious and willing to learn, you’ll do great. It’s good to know about science, technology and maths, but also remember to be creative and understand people’s feelings and needs. These “people skills”, like being kind, understanding and working well with others, will be very important. And always look for ways to learn more, like short online courses or fun workshops. We might not know exactly what the future holds, but it’s an exciting time. Get ready, learn lots, and remember you can shape the future. It’s an adventure waiting for you! Self-evaluation Tick the buttons on the scale to evaluate your language skills. ➀ I can do it easily and correctly. ➁ I can do most of it but I am not fully sure. ➂ I need to have a look at some things again. ➃ I should go over the whole chapter again. ➄ I need to ask my teacher for help. If you do the tasks again at a later stage, you can add a tick to show your progress.
