Prime Time 5, Schulbuch

5 Sorry, you’re wrong! Create two dialogues about television a) There are two speakers (A and B) and four statements in each dialogue. Sort the statements and write the dialogues down in your exercise book. b) Go through the dialogues with a partner and look for different ways in which the speakers add stress to what they say. Underline these elements. How to: Argue politely a) Listen to an argument about comics. Then discuss with a partner what the speakers do wrong. Comment on their voices, the words they use and the way in which they deal with one another. b) Now you are going to hear another version of the same discussion. Write down all the phrases the speakers use to keep the discussion friendly. 1  “But you know yourself that it’s the adverts that help to pay for the programmes.”  “I do hate it when television programmes are interrupted by commercial breaks.”  “Yes, but I still find it extremely annoying to have to sit and watch the silly rubbish.”  “Well in my opinion, it’s families and friends that people get their values from.”  “Oh, I don’t believe that has much effect on how people behave and talk themselves.”  “Sorry, but I’m convinced that what people see on their screens does have some influence.”  “What you should do is use those few minutes to go to the toilet or get yourself a drink!”  “Some TV is OK, but what I’m worried about is the effect of violence and swearing.” 2 c17–18 68 Fifteen minutes of fame Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
