183 Sample answer 1 shortcoming: Unzulänglichkeit, Mangel Dear Mr Higgins, I am writing to complain about the travel arrangements to London as offered by Easy & Excellent. I saw your advertisement on popular_travels.com and booked a weekend at the Golden Lion Hotel from 22nd April to 24th April this year. I was led to believe that the promises you made were a good choice for an inexpensive weekend trip. You stated that the flight connections were uncomplicated, that the hotel and breakfast would be excellent and that there would be easy transport from the hotel to the centre of London. Unfortunately, this was not the case. To begin with, the flight to London was not to Heathrow but to Stansted. As a result, the transfer to the hotel took so long that I finally arrived at 2 a.m. Needless to say, the staff were unfriendly at that time of night. Moreover, the choice of breakfast was poor: tea, coffee, bread, butter and jam – not at all what I would consider an English breakfast. Worst of all was the fact that there were no quick connections from the hotel to the centre of London. In fact, taking the underground meant a 15-minute walk from the hotel. I had been looking forward to this trip to London, but it was ruined by the problems mentioned above. Therefore, I feel that I deserve a refund of at least 50% of the price I paid. Unless I receive a satisfactory reply, I will inform popular_travels.com about the shortcomings of your travel company. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
