Miraculously, none of the 162 passengers and crew on board the Boeing aircraft were seriously injured. Authorities have not yet worked out what caused the airplane to veer off the runway shortly after landing. Panicked passengers were evacuated from the aircraft early on Sunday after emergency services and fire crews were called to the scene. One passenger told the media they stayed on the plane “for at least 20 minutes” waiting for help to arrive. “There was a smell of fuel inside, so we all thought the plane was going to explode, but thankfully it did not happen,” she said. Another passenger described the scene saying, “The plane was tilted to the side with its back up. Everyone was panicking, shouting and screaming, and some were in tears.” Another passenger said it was a miracle that they had come out of this terrible experience alive. “The plane could have caught fire and blown up. We’re so lucky that didn’t happen.” It has been reported that a woman in Thailand had a lucky escape after taking an unexpected swim when her bungee jump went badly wrong. A TV advert was being filmed with the woman when the accident happened. According to witnesses, the distance between the bridge and the water had not been measured properly before the woman was allowed to jump, so the bungee rope was too long. However, instead of bouncing back up after her jump, the woman’s head hit the water and she was almost completely submerged. In the video clip, she can be seen being pushed from the platform before dropping 15 metres and hitting the water head first. The man had tried to burgle the house but got his head wedged in the small window which had been left open by the owner. Police said he was lucky to survive getting stuck around five metres above the ground. The man was freed by the fire brigade. The burglar was sentenced to prison at a court hearing. A police spokesman said, “It’s the first time we’ve seen this happen. Burglars have got stuck in windows before, but they usually manage to free themselves.” A photo of the man was shared by the police to serve as a warning to the public about burglars in the area. “People think that if no ladders are left lying around, burglars can’t get into a house. But such burglaries are common in this area, and money and valuable jewellery are often stolen.” Lucky escapes Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
