89 going on diets and hated my hips even when I was in first grade. Back then, I was so insecure, and I had no one to look up to who could make me feel like my dreams could come true. Now I know so many gorgeous women who inspire me, and I hope that in the future there will be girls who can dream about something without worrying about the things that they can’t change. Why did you think that you couldn’t become a model or actor because of your body? When I was younger and really interested in acting, I looked at all the women on TV, and even the ones who played ‘geeks’ or ‘less attractive’ roles, they all looked similar because they were extremely attractive and their bodies were perfect. I didn’t understand, and I thought I looked frumpy. I think a lot of girls feel the same way. The media should show us like we really are as a society. How do you deal with body shaming on your social media sites? There will always be people who say mean things about others. I think I saw a Kendall Jenner picture and the comment next to it was “fat”, and I thought, “Wow, that makes no sense, but people can say anything on the internet.” I have a lot of people saying I’m ‘obese’, that I’m lying about my size and that I will have health problems. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’m not overweight. I have and will always eat to nourish my body, and I work out. You cannot look at someone and say they are unhealthy. You are not a doctor and if you were, you’d realize why that’s silly. I really, really never take internet talk to heart. The amount of positive messages that move me to tears is so much bigger than the amount of negative ones. Girls share their self-love stories. All the positive reactions are amazing, and I read all of them. Would you like to be called something other than ‘curvy’ or ‘plus-size’? People don’t usually think of curvy models as real models. But everyone who is called a ‘curvy model’ or a ‘plus-size’ model shows the limits of modelling. We’re trying to get rid of these labels and just be models of all shapes and sizes. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the words ‘curvy’ or ‘plus-size’, and I don’t think being bigger is anything wrong. I believe curvy and plus-size models will simply be models in the future, and nobody will think about shape and size anymore. What is your message to girls? Unlearn your harmful behaviors, realize you can wear whatever you want, and you were not put on this earth to do everything to be sexually appealing to people.
