If you can think of detailed examples (such as the story of Bobby’s nose for this topic), you will be able to make a more convincing argument and write a more readable essay. Step 1: For or against: You have decided to argue in favour of access restrictions: I believe that access to popular tourist attractions needs to be restricted. Step 2: Collecting ideas Picture the situation in a city with lots of tourists. What is annoying for the locals? How do tourists feel when crowds of people surround all the famous sights? Write down a few ideas. You can use them as examples to support your arguments. Step 3: Paragraphs and topic sentences Every paragraph of an opinion essay has a topic sentence and supporting details, including examples and reasons. You have decided to use the story of Bobby’s nose to support your argument in the paragraph covering the first bullet point (the impact of access restrictions on tourist attractions). Complete the paragraph. (TOPIC SENTENCE) Access restrictions serve to protect works of art that are famous tourist attractions. (EXPLANATION) In places where tourists can get close to statues or paintings, they are often damaged.
