(I don’t know this, but I think it’s very likely). modal verb + have + past participle (‘perfect infinitive’) Choose the correct modal verb to make meaningful sentences. 1 My brother is on his year abroad in Spain. I never hear from him, so he may / must be happy. 2 Charlie is really struggling with maths at university. Maybe he should have picked a language subject instead, that should / might have been a better fit for him. 3 Where’s Zlatko? – I’m not sure, but he usually goes to the gym in the afternoon, so he must / should be there now. 4 Congratulations on passing your exam! You might / must have been so happy when you got the results. 5 I could help you study for your physics test. – Yeah, that must / might be a good idea. 6 I don’t want to call her. I don’t know her schedule for today, and she may / should be taking part in an important meeting right now. 7 There is a shared student flat in my building. The students are often quite noisy, but this week, they have been very quiet. They should / must be studying for their exams.
