31 Living spaces and domestic environments | When you are doing a listening task, you need to listen carefully for the ‘cue words’ the speaker uses. Cue words are words that signal that the speaker is about to reveal the answer. Sometimes the cue words the speaker uses will be exactly the same as the words in the question, but sometimes the speaker will use a paraphrase of the words in the question. It’s important to identify the cue words because if you don’t, you may miss the answer and this can affect your confidence in answering the remainder of the questions in the time you have left. Identifying cue words You are going to listen to a conversation between two students who are talking about their experience of moving out of the family home.
