24 Identifying keywords, locating information, using paraphrase When you have to read a text and answer questions on it in a given period of time, it’s important to be able to quickly locate the part of text where the answer is. You can do this by first reading the questions and underlining keywords, and then skimming the text. You should also remember that the questions may use paraphrase. Look at the email below. Well, we’re finally in New York! The journey from Hong Kong was a bit of a nightmare. The queues at check-in were awful, and then our flight was delayed by over three hours. Every time we heard an announcement, we hoped it’d be about our flight, telling us to go to the departure gate, but we ended up having to sit around all that time. Then, when we were boarding, one of the flight attendants told me my carryon luggage was too big to take on board, and I wasn’t allowed to take it with me. We were sitting near a couple of kids who argued for the whole flight, so I couldn’t sleep! Anyway, after a dreadful journey, we were really glad to get to our accommodation.
