Start your day with a good English breakfast! The traditional English breakfast is much bigger than breakfast in most other countries. It is a fried meal with eggs, bacon, sausages, fried or grilled tomatoes, baked beans (beans cooked in a tomato sauce), fried mush- rooms and black pudding (a sausage made with blood and fat), served with toast or bread with butter or margarine, marmalade (made from citrus fruits) or jam (made from sweet fruits), a cup of tea or coffee, a bowl of cereal (cornflakes, muesli, …) and some fruit. Nowadays this large meal is mainly served in cafés and restaurants because tourists love it. Many restaurants serve an “all day breakfast”. People in Britain usually prefer a “continental breakfast”. They have toast, bread or rolls with butter, jam or marmalade, cheese and ham and a cup of tea or coffee. Cereals are also very popular. They don’t have time for a “fry-up” (another name for a cooked breakfast), only at weekends they sometimes eat an English breakfast to start the day. . . . . 5 . . . . 10 . . . . 15 . . . 47 Unit 9 Reading Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eig ntum des Verlags öbv
