After two days at the fair, I would like to share my experiences as well as make suggestions for the future. In general, not being able to use the internet in the main exhibition hall actually helped me to concentrate on the information provided. It was amazing to see how the visitors focused on the available input. They were all busy talking with each other and did not walk around texting or watching online content. Nobody blocked the way for others. I particularly enjoyed the mobile-free zone in the main lecture hall as the use of smartphones or tablets during a presentation is impolite and even distracts the speaker. However, your policy caused a lot of confusion as it was not clear where exactly wi-fi was available. I saw many stressed people who needed to make a phone call, but did not know where to go. In addition, during the workshops we were sometimes asked to research and discuss information, which caused problems without internet access. There is no harm in staying ‘unplugged’ for a while, but nowadays workshops frequently include using the internet. Therefore, it might be good to have clearer guidelines on where and when mobile phones may be used. Nowadays people are unlikely to accept going without digital technology for a whole day. Thank you for your consideration. Yours sincerely, Moyra Lambert 173 Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
