Sample report From: Julia Morgan Subject: Youth unemployment in the Eurozone Date: 14 March 20.. Introduction This report aims to describe the development of youth unemployment in four European countries and to give suggestions on improving the situation. Findings Young people need to have a perspective in life, which is largely determined by their opportunities to develop a career. Such chances seem to be improving, as recent changes in youth unemployment in Austria, France, Germany and Poland show. Overall youth unemployment has been decreasing since 2016. The most obvious trend is that youth employment rates generally started to increase in 2008. The most drastic development happened in France, where it soared to around 9% within one year and remained above 7.5%. A similar trend can be seen in Poland, where the steady rise in the number of unemployed young people continued until 2013. Interestingly, after a peak in 2013, unemployment among young Poles dropped below 5% in 2018. In other words, while youth unemployment remained a particularly big problem in France, the employment situation in Austria, Germany and Poland was better between 2013 and 2019. Even though more Austrians and Germans became unemployed in 2008, the trend was less dramatic. In Austria, youth unemployment showed a downward trend after 2009 and remained at roughly 3%. Conclusion Concluding one can say that youth unemployment is alarmingly high in France, but only between 3% and 5% in the other countries, with increasing employment opportunities for young Poles. Recommendations As the trends in the majority of the countries show, special education and re-training programmes are effective. Yet, the numbers suggest that in France such programmes have not shown the desired effect. It might prove useful to cooperate with successful project teams in Austria, Germany or Poland.
