Now read Ellie’s reply. Which of the things she recommends would you find most interesting? b Hi Gareth, (1) It’s great that you’re off to Costa Rica. I know you’ll love it. The climate is tropical all year round, and Costa Rica is probably politically the most stable country in Central America. I’ve put together a few ideas for you. Of course you’ll discover lots more things while you’re there, but this should get you started. (2) There’s lots to see and do in this beautiful country. Be sure to visit at least one of the many national parks, which make up a quarter of the country’s area and are home to an enormous variety of birds, animals and plants. Some species can only be found in Costa Rica, and the country uses the income from tourism to protect its impressive biodiversity. (3) That’s the reason why many lodges and resorts specialise in eco-tourism. I’d recommend you visit the famous Corcovado National Park. You should stay in one of the eco-lodges there. ‘La Bonita’ would be a good choice. It’s a charming family-run place combining camping with all the amenities of home. Guests live in cabins without electric lights or air-conditioning so that they leave a minimal impact on the environment. Food is bought from local farmers, and all their vegetables and fruit are organic! So make sure you try some typical local dishes and, of course, enjoy the delicious Costa Rican coffee. (4) The sea is nearby, so you can not only enjoy the view but also go swimming or watch the sea turtles. You can even take part in a volunteer project and help protect this endangered species! Also, for Dylan’s sake, don’t miss the fascinating tours in the rainforest. You should go on either a bird-watching or golddigging tour, on which a local gold digger teaches you how to seek and wash gold in the traditional way, which does not harm the environment. It’s advisable to book tickets a few days in advance as numbers are limited. Ideally, you should book at least one tour with an expert local guide who leads you on one of the many trails through the rainforest. So don’t forget to pack your hiking boots! (5) I hope you’ll have a great time! Looking forward to hearing all about it later. Lots of love, Ellie Which paragraph 1–5 is about: A wishes for the future? C the activities?
