Writing guide The assessment scale used to assess the written paper of the Austrian Standardisierte Reife- und Diplomprüfung (SRDP) comprises the following four criteria: ■■ task achievement ■■ organisation and layout ■■ lexical and structural range ■■ lexical and structural accuracy Task achievement assesses your ability to complete the set task according to its specific requirements. It does not consider the range or accuracy of your language. If your performance fails to address the task (receiving 0 points), the other three criteria will not be assessed at all, which means that the writing task will not be awarded any points. In order to meet the requirements, you should: ■■ fulfil the purpose of the text (e.g. to inform, persuade, etc.) and address all the content points. ■■ include all typical elements of the text type in question (e.g. a title or section headings) ■■ highlight the personal significance of events if required (relating facts, opinions, etc. to your personal views and experience). ■■ express and evaluate views and opinions and relate them to those of others. ■■ observe the required number of words (required number of words +/–10%) Organisation and layout refers to the structure at both text and paragraph level. In order to meet the requirements, you should: ■■ structure your text carefully (introduction, body and conclusion). ■■ organise your ideas logically and link them with appropriate linking words. ■■ use paragraphs. ■■ develop points in a clear and systematic way. ■■ be aware of different layout conventions for different text types. Lexical and structural range refers to the range of structures and vocabulary used. In order to meet the requirements, you should: ■■ use a wide range of vocabulary. ■■ use a wide variety of structures and sentence forms and avoid repetition. ■■ employ the correct register (formal, informal). Lexical and structural accuracy refers to your ability to use grammatical structures and vocabulary accurately. In order to meet the requirements, you should: ■■ use grammar (sentence structure, etc.) and vocabulary accurately. ■■ use linking devices (linking words) correctly. ■■ spell words correctly and meet punctuation standards. ■■ use one standard variety of English (British or American English) consistently. 194 195 Blog post 196 Blog comment 198 Article 200 Leaflet 202 (Formal) Letter / Email 204 Report Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
