We need to know about their sizes, shapes and weight, pre-, peri- and post-pregnancies, clothing, how they look in bikinis or without, about their news or revelations. …  3  That’s the point. If you see them, if you hear about them, they’ve done their job. …  4  In shows such as American Idol , viewers take on roles once performed by professionals, from talent scout to judge, and then end up buying the CD they helped make. That wears down the walls between show and beholders. …  5  And that’s a clue to a shift in pop culture: We’re our own producers, our own self-published, self-videoed, self-recorded celebrities. Reality TV closes the gap between the people “up there” and the people “down here”.
