Mohammed Ali, 15, from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, spends his days earning thousands of pounds while most teenagers struggle to get out of bed. Also known as Ali, he makes thousands of pounds by building websites and is now designing an app for currency dealers and share traders – all before he has even taken his GCSEs. He regularly travels to Canary Wharf in London to meet clients and has already raked in more than £30,000. e young entrepreneur, who learned how to create websites using YouTube and books, now charges £600 per website. Aged just 12, Ali, who has always had an interest in computers, created his own online game called Project 2006. It attracted more than 3,000 registered members in about four months and he hopes his success story can inspire other youngsters to take up programming. He said, “One day I was bored, and I had no new games to play, so I just decided to make my own one.” e son of a taxi driver, who has €ve siblings, Ali soon realised he could start making money from his computer skills, so he set up his website-making business called Flaming Sites. Within a few months the money was Šooding in but not everyone was pleased. e Batley Grammar School student said, “I have quite a few followers on social media, and there were some people writing rude comments asking why I couldn’t be a normal kid and go play outside, things like that. But mostly they were just focusing on my appearance because they can’t judge anything else. It was hard, but I didn’t lose any real friends over it.” Despite his age, Ali puts most of his money into his savings account. Mum Nadia, 38, who is a housewife, said, “He’s a very good boy. He says to me, ‘Oh mum can I buy you this car?’ and I tell him ‘No, it’s too expensive!’ But I let him buy me smaller things, like a new hoover and a sofa, and he helps with the shopping, things like that. We’re so proud of him. We didn’t teach him anything, he did all this himself. We never knew anything.” Ali hopes to study computer science at Leeds or Manchester University in the future. He added, “I considered doing Business as well, but I think I’ve got enough experience already.” (Maryse Farag, The Sun , 21 January 2016; adapted and abridged) b) Write an e-mail to a friend who wants to start his own business and describe the article you’ve just read state your personal view of Mohammed Ali give advice to your friend Write around 200 words.
