Family traditions Selina, Manuel and Elif are all Austrian citizens, but their families have roots in other countries as well. Manuel enjoys practicing martial arts from Malaysia with his family. Elif’s favourite dessert, baklava is made following her Turkish grandmother’s recipe. Being a citizen means that you have all the rights and privileges, such as working or voting. You might not have the same citizenship as your parents . My favourite family tradition is individual answer , which comes from place originally. We typically do this tradition during/at time of year or holiday . 06 A2–B1 My mom’s family is from a part of Burgenland where many people speak Croatian. They have lovely traditions – especially dances! My sister and I perform them at weddings. We each wear six layered skirts and twirl around for the bride and groom! My mom is originally from Styria, but my dad comes from Malaysia. My brothers and I practice Silat Pulut , which is a martial art. Our dad instructs us in both Malay and English! Every summer I look forward to visiting my grandparents in sunny Antalya. I love helping my grandmother make baklava!
