Read about the application of screed and fill in the three types of screed. Screeds provide a substructure suitable for laying floorings. They are usually made from pre-blended sand-based mortar mixed with various binders like cement or gypsum. The first type of screed we are looking at is laid directly on a foundation base. There are no layers of insulation, thus it is mostly used in industrial buildings. It is called  bonded screed  . Another type of screed is laid on two sheets. These form an isolating layer and have the function of a vapour barrier. This means the concrete foundation is separated from the screed and dampness is stopped from rising into the screed. It is for example used in cellars and is called  unbonded screed  . The third type of screed is applied over a layer of thermal insulat- ing or soundproofing material. Above this layer, an insulation covering sheet is installed. This type of screed has no connection to any other component and is for example used in private houses. It is called  floating screed  .
