The dimensions of two components have to fit together in the joined area. The inner part is the  bore  , the outer part the  shaft  . Because of the choice of the tolerance classes of bore and shaft, either a  positive allowance  or  negative allowance  is the result. The difference between the dimensions of the bore and the shaft specifies the fit. There are three types of fit: Loose fit The minimum size limit of the bore is always larger; in a  limit case  , it is equal to the maximum size limit of the shaft. Medium fit Depending on the actual size of bore and shaft, the  result  at joining is either a positive allowance or negative allowance. Interference fit The  maximum  size limit of the bore is always smaller; in a limit case, it is equal to the minimum size limit of the shaft. Work in groups of three.
