Springs protect against the door falling and for ease of operation. They can be opened either by hand or electrically. Sectional doors Sectional doors consist of separate sections, which are moved vertically in order to open the entrance. These sections are connected flexibly and are moved upwards under the ceiling. Sliding gates Sliding gates are quite cost-effective. They can be single or double gates, but there must be enough space on each side to slide them. They either have upper track rollers or bottom tracks, but there are also self-supporting sliding gates. Roller doors A roller door is a sort of sectional door, but needs less space. It is easy to install and is more solid than a sectional door. Swing gates Swing gates are usually made of steel or aluminium. They can be single or double (winged) gates. They need a lot of space because they are opened on side hinges towards the inside or outside. Together with a partner, make a chart about the windows, doors and gates mentioned. Try to find information about their use, what they are made of and their advantages and disadvantages. Use the internet for help, if you can’t find all the information in the unit. What type of windows are common in different countries? Find pictures of them on the internet.
