Safe handling of hazardous materials Hazardous materials are dangerous because they can explode or burn, cause health damage or are biological agents. Have you ever taken a closer look at the labels of the materials you use in your work? You might often use substances without being aware of the fact that they are hazardous. Since 2017, there is a globally harmonized system (GHS) , the symbols are an overview about the dangers, often some smaller descriptions are added for more detailed information. Please always make sure you read them! Take a look at the new symbols. 1. Define which category of hazardous materials each indicates. Then, read what you have to pay attention to when working with such a material and think of a good name for the symbol in English. Use the internet for help.
