13 2.5 Guided writing Matching topic sentences and text passages a) Read the following topic sentences. Topic sentence A: One of the issues which trouble young people is the fact that they tend to compare themselves with others, especially on social networks. Topic sentence B: However, it is not just the looks, but their whole lifestyle which young people present to their “friends” on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and the like. b) Find the right paragraphs to go with them. Choose first from paragraphs 1 to 3, then from paragraphs I to III. 5  1. They show very personal pictures, and many of them are not aware that these images can be seen by virtually everybody in the world with internet access. I. However helpful adults might be in their own eyes, young people do not like them to interfere. 2. The problem is that young people do not like to be monitored by their parents or teachers or to talk to them about what they do on the internet. II. Some of them even retreat from their friends and family and end up with major psychological problems. 3. This means that these young people feel the constant pressure of competition, which worries many and sometimes leads to severe personal problems. III. As you have given these issues a lot of thought, you decide to write a comment about it.
