Many students have actually already experienced some form of bullying. Last week, I myself kind of witnessed an incident at my sports club. When I entered the locker room, I saw two older boys actually attacking a 13-year-old student. I knew neither the boy nor the attackers. I was actually very shocked to see such a really violent attack. When they saw me, the two attackers pushed me to the side and ran away. Bullying can affect kind of anyone. Kids who are bullied very often feel really alone and totally helpless. Bullying can actually cause illnesses and often influences school participation in a really negative way. Yet, it can also be a problem for bystanders. Kids who witness bullying are actually more likely to feel kind of anxious or totally depressed and may miss or skip school. Schools actually have a great responsibility when it comes to dealing with teen bullies. First of all, schools need to make sure that bullying incidents are reported more often. Students and parents actually need to know that the school takes bullying very seriously and will take any necessary actions. Apart from that, teachers should get training in spotting and handling bullying. Finally, parents should be encouraged to support the school’s efforts and assist in activities and projects. 13  14  17  18  19  20  21  23  25  Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
