In the UK high-street shops offer T-shirts for less than £8.00 and jeans for less than £10.00. According to recent statistics the vast majority of people working in Third World sweatshops are women and children. People who can afford it should stay away from cheap clothes, as they would only support the present system of exploitation. People in developing countries have to produce goods for the industrialised world under appalling conditions because they have no other source of income. Whereas people in Europe and North America benefit from the system through cheap prices, people in poorer countries can hardly make a living on the low wages in the textile industry. It is appalling that the modern economic system makes it possible to exploit the poor and uneducated in developing countries. Buying cheap clothes also has a negative effect on the economy of highly developed countries. 1 TSD: Task Specific Descriptor: This descriptor applies depending on the task.
