I recently witnessed such a bullying incident at my sports club. Two older boys attacked a 13-year-old student in the locker room. I wanted to help but the two attackers pushed me to the side and ran away. I don’t know the boy nor the attackers. I was really shocked to see such a violent attack and I felt totally helpless. Students who are bullied in school often feel alone and depressed. Bullying does not only affect children and teenagers, it can affect anyone. It can cause illnesses and – in school situations – often influences school performance in a negative way. Such violence can also be a problem for bystanders. Kids who witness bullying are also more likely to feel anxious and depressed and may even miss or skip school. Students and parents need to understand that schools take bullying seriously and will take any necessary actions to stop it. Schools have a great responsibility when it comes to dealing with teen bullies. They need to make sure that bullying incidents are reported immediately. Parents, on the other hand, should be encouraged to support the schools’ efforts and assist in anti-bullying projects. To help students who are affected teachers should get special training in spotting and handling bullying. Do not let the bullies get you down. Bullying is completely unacceptable. You can help by standing up for the bullied, and by standing up for yourself. And remember: You are perfect just the way you are. Send in your comments to show how important this issue is.
