17 Sample prompt: Informal e-mail/letter As the end of your school year comes nearer and nearer and some of your classmates have decided to switch to another school, it was suggested to go on a three-day school trip together as a final event. As there have been a lot of discussions about this plan, you have decided to write an e-mail to your classmates to share your point of view. In your informal e-mail you should: • explain why you think such a trip is (not) meaningful • describe issues related to this project • suggest measures to address the problems Write around 200 words . Sample informal e-mail 23 March 20 . . Dear all, The other day we discussed the idea of going on a school trip at the end of the year to celebrate that we have made it once again. It’s really sad that some of us will not be able to join us next year in the run-up to our final exams. For me a school trip together would be a splendid idea. We could enjoy the days and hang out and do what we have always wanted to do. It must be absolutely clear that no teachers are needed to look after us and to protect us. They can be so painful with all their instructions and safety regulations and stuff. As far as I’m concerned, I will only take part if we can go on our own without any adults who would just ruin the fun. And then there is the question how long it should take. Well, I don’t really know. What do you think? Should we go for three days or just for one? Three days is quite long, if you ask me, and it would cost more, of course, and not everybody has the money to do that. On the other hand, it would be so nice to be together for a last time. Maybe we could start a fund-raising project, so that everybody can take part if they want to. I have no clear idea at the moment, but maybe we could sell things which we produce ourselves like sandwiches or smoothies or something like that. Let me know what you think of all this. See you tomorrow, Mario 3.1.2 Formal e-mails/letters E-mails/Letters are either digital or printed messages which can be used in private or in business communication.
