71 What should schools teach their students? What are the most important things you want to have learned by the time you leave school? Make some notes, then compare your ideas in pairs. You are going to listen to part of a public debate on education. Look at the three goals of education below. Where would your ideas fit? Listen to the beginning of the debate now. Change or add to the notes on what schools should teach you’ve made already. Keep improving your notes as you work through this section. Get into three groups to prepare for a debate. Your teacher will tell you which of the three opinions to prepare for. Come up with convincing arguments for your position, but also think about what your arguments against the other two points of view could be. Now change into groups of three.
