44 Unit 03 | Coming home Read the texts on this double page. They are about people who are looking for a place to live (1–4) and people talking about their living experiences (A–C). Which of the texts on the left and right page discuss the same living arrangements? Which text doesn’t go with anything? READING 8 M p. 20 Peter I wouldn’t really enjoy living with other people. I like my privacy and, if I’m honest, a little bit of luxury . I would be an ideal tenant as I’m tidy and wouldn’t bother the other residents in the building. Decent facilities in the kitchen including a dishwasher and washing machine would be really important to me. I’m not so keen on doing my own cleaning, so I would need to find someone to do this for me. This would also save me time so I could get on with my studies. Financially I’m quite well off, I can afford to live by myself. It would be great to live on the top floor somewhere as I would really enjoy the view. 1 Alex As far as I’m concerned, if you have a roof over your head, it doesn’t matter too much what it’s like. I definitely don’t need luxuries as a student. For me it’s most important to have a desk to work at, somewhere to store my books and to be near uni. I really don’t want a long commute – the nearer, the better. I’m quite environmentally friendly , so I wouldn’t be happy taking a car ride to university – but I couldn’t afford a car anyway. I’d need a couple of bookshelves for my books and somewhere to hang a few clothes. An en-suite bathroom would be an advantage, but isn’t a necessity because I’m happy to share the facilities with other people. I’d quite like a communal kitchen ; this would give me the chance to get to know a few people. 2 Zahra I’m going to get a monthly allowance from my parents, and then I can afford a small amount of rent somewhere. Ideally, I’d like to get together with some other students and share a place so I can have a ready-made social life. I’m quite a sociable person and enjoy going out, but I’m also happy to stay home and watch a film. I’m generally a pretty tidy person and don’t mind doing a bit of vacuuming , cleaning or doing the laundry now and then, as long as the others aren’t too untidy and do their share. Luckily my dad is an electrician . If anything broke, he’d be able to help out and repair things. He could do stuff like install extra sockets so everyone could plug in their devices. 3 Cheryl I’ll be starting my first ever job, which is scary and exciting at the same time. I won’t earn that much to begin with, so I won’t have much money for rent or furniture. This means I’ll need low-cost accommodation that’s fully furnished . I grew up in the city near to where the offices of my new job are and my family home’s still there. To be honest, I don’t really want to bother moving out with all my junk . I get on pretty well with my family, but I also enjoy having my independence and going out for evenings with my mates. I won’t be home all that much anyway. I haven’t got a car, but fortunately we have access to public transport. 4 Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
