The importance of sports is totally overrated. People are always saying that sports keep you healthy, but as long as you eat a balanced diet and are a healthy weight, you don’t need to be sporty. It’s much more important to be happy with your life and do the things you enjoy. This doesn’t have to be sports. You might get your kicks going out with friends, watching a good film or just having a laugh. After all, they say laughter is the best medicine! In fact, sports can actually be damaging to your health. Lots of people get injured by falling or bumping into another player in a team, and some people even have heart attacks when pushing themselves to the limit. Although some people say that working out reduces stress, for me it does just the opposite. People who take their sports seriously and play in teams or compete have to get up really early and practise before school starts. Getting up at 4 a.m. to go swimming or running can’t be relaxing! They then have to do a whole day at school as well as homework and probably even more practice in the evenings. In what world does that reduce your stress levels? It’s much better to relax with a good book, listen to music and have enough time to study for tests and do your homework in peace. Also, there’s so much pressure on athletes to perform well and keep winning. They must feel awfully stressed just before a match or competition, and that can’t be healthy. It could be argued that physical exercise is good for your self-esteem, but no one wins all the time, and it must make people feel awful when they lose. Plus, there’s so much competition that you’d be constantly comparing yourself to everyone else and wondering if they’re better than you. There’s a risk you’d never feel you’re good enough, and that could give you a negative self-image. If you do a lot of sport, you also need to keep in shape, which means watching what you eat – all the time! You’d feel guilty for having the occasional binge of pizza and cola, and, let’s face it, who doesn’t need that every now and then? reply Bullet point 1 Bullet point 2 Bullet point 3 Conclusion: Give the reader something to think about.
