181 Blog post – sample answer World_traveller It’s got to be Australia. ‘Down under’ – it’s the one place to go if you want to spend some time abroad. I just got back from the most amazing trip to Australia. Fabulous, I’ve got so much to tell you. It’s such a great idea to spend some time away from all your home comforts and spread your wings for a while. Why? Well, to start with, you’ll learn some life skills and independence. For instance, having to get from A to B by yourself by using public transport can be a real challenge, but you’ll be pretty pleased with yourself once you’ve done it. Plus, you’ll make a ton of new friends as there’s nothing like travelling to make people open up and start chatting. Also, you could be helping someone else while at the same time helping yourself. I volunteered at a koala sanctuary near Brisbane and had the time of my life helping out these cute little bears. But what about accommodation? Well, take it from me, the best thing you can do is stay with an ‘Ozzie’ host family. I think they’re just the most open and welcoming people on earth! You don’t have to worry about looking for a bed and breakfast because this can be pretty expensive. My hosts made me feel like part of the family and introduced me to all their friends and relatives, which was really cool. They also took me sightseeing at the weekends, and we spent a lot of time on the beach. Having said that, they also gave me my space when I needed it. I had my own room, so I could stay there and read or take a nap whenever I felt like it. The best of both worlds, isn’t it? So, listen up: Everyone should spend some time abroad to see things from a different point of view and get a taste of independence. Whether you’re travelling for a month or a year, Australia is the perfect place to go. Fab weather, friendly people, endless beaches – it’s got the lot. You can easily find a job volunteering with animal sanctuaries or some other organisation – the possibilities are endless. Then you’ll get the chance to give something back while you’re there. You can find more information online, or try asking around. Your friends are bound to know someone who’s spent some time in Oz. Well, how about it?
