180 WRITING COACH Make sure you understand the situation: Who is interested in the report? Why? What information do you have to give? Why is the information important? Study the instructions: How can you describe the results without giving just the numbers as a percentage? What do you think about the results? Can you explain them? What suggestions can you make based on the results? Report A report gives clear information on facts, projects, incidents or events and is based on evidence and research. It is written for a person in charge, an authority or an institution, using formal and polite language. It is clearly structured, making use of sections and headings so that the information is easy to follow.  See also pp. 109 –111. The ABC guideline for writing reports: A – be accurate. The information has to be exact. B – be brief. Keep the report to the point. C – be clear. Make sure everybody understands it.
