To inform, persuade, engage, entertain the reader To write about facts, events, projects, research, etc. Who reads the text? Someone who makes decisions, often a superior or an institution Readers of an (online) magazine What is the layout of the text like? Catchy title Introduction – to catch the reader’s attention Paragraphs Ending – gives the reader something to think about Introduction – to explain the purpose of it Paragraphs (sections with headings) Conclusion – may be a summary, a recommendation or a future outlook What are the stylistic features of the text? Formal, no contractions, factual, concise, to the point Informal (or semi-formal), (rhetorical) questions, reader should be addressed A R It’s written for a particular (1) (e.g. an institution, a person in charge). It presents information and (2) based on research and evidence. It ends with a summary, a future outlook, or, quite often, with a (4) . It has a clear (3)  , making use of sections and headings.
