Activities Reading: Skateboarding safety a) Read the following text about skateboard safety and underline the words you don’t know. Look them up in a dictionary or on the internet. 1  Safety instructions Skateboarding can be dangerous. The boards have small wheels and if they hit a stone or a small step, the riders can fall off the board. So it is important to wear the right safety gear. Especially beginners should wear gloves to protect their hands and also knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards. Helmets can protect the riders from serious head injuries. Another problem is other road users. A skateboarder has to look out for people walking along the road, for cars, for bicycles etc. It is not easy to stop quickly and so you have to learn how to slow down and stop when it is necessary. And be careful when you jump off your board: make sure the board stops because it may harm people if it hits them. 5 10 b) Match the words with the explanations.
