Different types of adverbs (revision) You already know different types of adverbs. We use adverbs to give information on an event or to express our opinion. 1. Adverbs of manner express how something is done. Some influencers work hard to present a product casually . Some adverbs do not end in -ly : fast, hard, well, in a friendly way, in a silly way 2. Adverbs of degree can give more information on an adjective. It’s really difficult to notice that this is advertising, too. This is a completely new form of celebrity endorsement. 3. Adverbs of probability express how likely something is. Influencers will probably become even more important in the advertising industry. 4. Adverbs of opinion express how the speaker thinks about something. Personally , I find these new forms of advertising amazing. They are clearly more creative than most TV ads. 5. Adverbs of frequency express how often something is done. My favourite blogger usually posts about some cool products. I was never disappointed when I bought them myself. Adjectives after verbs We use adjectives after these verbs: be, look, smell, get, become, seem, sound, feel, taste . These verbs don’t describe an activity. They tell us what someone or something is like (be, seem, look) , how someone or something changes (get, become) , or what we notice about someone or something with our eyes, ears, etc. (smell, sound, feel, taste) . This ad is brilliant. It makes the yogurt look delicious, and I get hungry as soon as I see it. It sounds healthy, too. I’m sure it smells and tastes amazing. Maybe it seems better than it really is. Careful: “ well ” can be used after some of these verbs when it means “ healthy ”. I’m not well today, so I’ll stay in bed. You don’t look well . You might get a cold. Get well soon!
