Many people are afraid that they will lose their jobs and won’t earn any money. But that’s not true. Rather than killing jobs, artificial intelligence changes jobs and turns them into something new. Here are a few examples of jobs that might be around in 2040. Of course, technology will play an important role. But it will be our job to make sure technology works the way it should. 1. Robot support crew: Robots can take over more and more tasks from humans. They will be able to drive cars, fly planes or transport things. But they will always need a support crew to make sure they work well. We will need people who repair broken robots or develop new ones. People will also think about ethical aspects, for example, if a robot should replace a school nurse. 2. 3D printing designers: Many things will be produced with 3D printers in the future. We will be able to use more and more materials to print things and to do it at greater speed. Therefore, we will need people who design all the things that are printed: 3D food designers or 3D specialists for medicine. 3. Space technology ground crew: Maybe, we will be able to fly to Mars in 2040 and will have opened all kinds of space centres on distant planets. Every day, space tourism rockets will leave the earth. To make all this happen, we will need people who make sure all these space travels go as planned: space mission planners, space meteorologists or space tourism agents. 4. Smart home professionals: More and more “smart” things in our homes can be managed online through the “internet of things (IoT)”. We can turn our heating on or off even if we are not at home or use technology to make our homes safer. There will be a lot of jobs around the internet of things, such as IoT home designers, IoT security experts or IoT smart clothing designers. b) Do the exercises below. 1.
