Grammar Unit 1 Talking about the past: Irregular and regular forms You need to learn irregular past forms of verbs by heart. For regular forms, simply follow the rule. Unregelmäßige Vergangenheitsformen von Verben musst du auswendig lernen. Bei regelmäßigen Formen folge der Regel. Irregular forms z. Regular forms Form: play want verb + ed played wanted Ausnahmen: Nach einem Konsonanten wird y zu ie . Manche Konsonanten werden verdoppelt. Other forms: y à ie cr y cr ie d p à pp/l à ll/… cla p cla pp ed trave l trave ll ed Sadie played beach volleyball every day. Her brother wanted to go windsurfing. Sadie cried when it was time to go back home. Talking about the past: Negative forms Both irregular and regular verbs follow the same rule to make negative past forms. Only was/were is an exception. Sowohl für unregelmäßige als auch für regelmäßige Verben verwendest du die gleiche Struktur, um negative Formen zu bilden. Lediglich was/were ist eine Ausnahme. Form: like have didn’t + base form didn’t like didn’t have was/were + not Sadie didn’t like her holidays in California because she didn’t have a lot of fun. Her best friends weren’t there.
