4 Language in use: My volunteer experiences You are going to read a text about a teenager who regularly volunteers in a nursing home. In most lines of the text there is a word that should not be there. Write that word in the space provided after each line. Some lines are correct. Indicate these lines with a tick ( ü ). There are three examples at the beginning. Up until a few years ago I had never thought that the one of my grandparents the 0 would be in a nursing at home. I had always been lucky to have them at 00 healthy. However, this changed about a year ago when my grandfather ü 000 had a mini-stroke. From that time onward, he needed extra care if my Q1 grandmother could not provide on. Watching my family deal with my Q2 grandfather made me aware of the care the elderly need and has made Q3 me realise how important it is not to volunteer at a local nursing home. Q4 My grandfather’s stroke affected his legs and his memory, which made it Q5 difficult for him to walk. My grandfather first did used a cane, but his Q6 legs became too weak, so after he tried a walker, but this lasted only a Q7 month. Not only could he not walk or take care of himself, but he also Q8 began to stay up at night and fall out of this bed. Q9 My family started from looking into nursing homes. It took us weeks Q10 before finally deciding over. Unfortunately he will have to stay there Q11 until he improves, both mentally and physically.
