The first one (0) has been done for you. 07 An alternative to aerosols Concerns among consumers about the damaging e†ects of aerosol packaging on the planet are well known and for many years manufacturers and the aerosol industry have been looking for alter- natives. Products (0) on the environment but also o†er the consumer a better experience than the existing options provide manufacturers with a win-win situation. is is why an increasing number of brands, including Gillette and Elizabeth Arden, are replacing aerosol cans with a packaging system developed by a fast-growing company called Airopack. As the name suggests, these containers are powered by air. ey are made of plastic instead of metal, and (1) , since Airopack’s packaging technology has a 26% lower carbon footprint and a total environmental footprint that is 32% less than that of conventional aerosol dispensers. As is so o en the case with the best innova- tions, the technology is simple but very e†ective. As you press the nozzle, Airopack’s pressurised air technology gives you a spray (2) right down to the last drop. Even for creams and thick gels it will dispense e†ectively from start to –nish. “Many consumers are unaware (3) , it consists of up to around 40% propellant rather than the product itself,” say’s Erwin Boes, Airopack’s commercial technology director. “With our technology they like the fact that they are just buying the product and they can literally see this because our containers are transparent.” Another advantage for both manufacturers and consumers is that the system is airtight. “ is allows for substances (4) ,” explains the vice president. ‘It is also ideal for products that have a reaction to oxygen. With our technology, the contents stay fresh and they may not need any preservatives. People are increasingly looking for more natural products and Airopack makes that possible.Consumers also appreciate the way (5) is capable of delivering a consistent £ow of product whatever angle it is used from. “It’s especially good when people are applying sunblock or body spray” explains Mr Boes. “Even when used upside down, it will work the same way and completely empty the container, without any wastage.” Airopack was oŒcially launched in 2012, a fact (6) by some of the world’s largest beauty, skincare and homecare providers all the more impressive.
