First you will have 45 seconds to study the task below, then you will hear the recording twice. While listening, answer the questions (1–6) using a maximum of 4 words. Write your answers in the spaces provided. The first one (0) has been done for you. After the second listening, you will have 45 seconds to check your answers. 27 02 0 What kind of misbehaviour was Dawn talking about? Smoking in school 1 What kind of punishment did Dawn get? 2 Why did Joy never go to school? 3 How did the headmaster find out about Joy’s misbehaviour? 4 How long did Paul have to stay away from school? 5 What was the reason for David having to write lines? 6 What did David think of his punishment? TIP Short-answer questions This type of task presents you with a number of questions which you have to answer by using a few words only. Your answers have to be short and concise. It is essential to pay attention to the number of words allowed. Usually, the limit is FOUR WORDS. Do not exceed this limit by includ - ing irrelevant information because this will make your answer WRONG. Proceed as follows: As in all other task types, read the instructions (here: “You are going to listen … when they • misbehaved at school.”) to get prepared for the topic you are going to hear. Make good use of the 45-second preparation time and carefully read the questions. You may • even want to underline the keywords in each question. This will help you to listen for the words and expressions you need for your answer. For example, in question 5 of this task you could underline reason for and write lines . Don’t try to write full sentences, rather use key words only. • There are often several ways of saying the same thing, and therefore different answers are • possible. Such alternative answers for question 0 could be: “smoking in school”, “smoking at school”, “smoking on school property” or simply “smoking”. If you can’t think of an answer during the first listening, come back to it during the second one. • Other parts of the test may give you clues to what the answer may be. After the second listening you have another 45 seconds for a final check of your answers. • In case you are still unsure about a choice DO NOT leave the question unanswered, but make an educated guess. A guess made with common sense could get you more test points than if you leave an answer blank. 42 N r zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
