When they started, in the 198 0s, they weren’t able to play very well but they went on long tours and became one of the mo st successful rock bands in the world. U2 are still to gether but Bono is now also famous for his work to help poor people in Africa. S is for Sovereign Lady Sovereign (her real name is Loui se Amanda Harman) was born near Lond on in 1985. She wrote her first raps when she was 14. When she left school she was able to write the music for a film about the rap world. She is now one of the most exc iting rappers in Britain and America. M is for Madonna … Madonna is one of America’s most successful pop singers. When her career started, in the 1980s, her singing was less important than her dancing and her clothes. She has changed her image lots of times and she always wears lots of different costumes in her unforgettable concerts. … and Marley More than 25 years after his death, Jamaican singer, songwriter and guitarist Bob Marley (1945 – 1981) is still the biggest reggae star in the world. His hits were in the 1970s, but even today his music has a strong message for black people in Jamaica and all around the world. (He has millions of white fans, too.) G is for Gorillaz Gorillaz was one of the first virtual bands. Its members are all cartoon characters.
