Step 1: Looking at adverts Adverts are texts which usually want to sell a product. a) Look at the two adverts on page 104. What is the product in each advert? b) Would you buy the products? Say why or why not. c) Read the checklist on the right. Find the features in the two adverts. ä d) Is there anything in the adverts which (probably) isn’t true? Step 2: Adverts with famous people g a) Think of adverts that have famous people (pop stars, actors, … ) in them. What are they trying to sell? Talk about this kind of advert in class. b) Why do you think adverts use famous people? Step 3: Making your own advert S h a) Make your own advert. It can be for food, a car, clothes, … Read the tips in the skills box before you start. Your advert should have some of the features from the checklist. Think: who is the advert for? (Young people? Pets owners? … ) The advert should be interesting for those people. The text of your advert should be short and interesting. You needn’t write full sentences, but you must say what is good about the product, and why people should buy it. WRI T ING SKI LLS g b) Show your advert to the other groups.
